In the State of Wisconsin, access to government records is governed by Subchapter II of Chapter 19 of the Wisconsin Statutes. Additionally, reports are governed by federal laws, specifically the Drivers Privacy Protection Act, which may result in a report being redacted (information blacked out).
Police Reports
Copies of police incident reports can be obtained from the River Hills Police Department. To obtain reports, you may be required to complete the Open Records Request Form in order to assist us in locating your record and fulfilling your request in a timely manner. Once completed, the form can be mailed, faxed, or dropped off in person. Fees may apply for open records requests.
Crash Reports
All MV4000 accident reports completed by officers will be available from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles Accident Reports Unit, generally 10 days after the incident.
The River Hills Police Department may retain some documents pertaining to accidents in which law enforcement investigation was necessary and certain other accident related records, including traffic citations, supplemental crash reports, and photographs.
